The restoration of the USS Thomas Jefferson (SSBN-618) sail memorial brought together submarine veterans, Scouting America volunteers, and the Hampton Roads community to preserve an important piece of naval history. Through the dedication of Eagle Scout Samuel Gandy and more than 600 hours of volunteer service, the project honors the submarine's crews and ensures their legacy of service, sacrifice, and camaraderie continues to inspire future generations.

The Expeditionary Medical Ship (EMS) is a high-speed, shallow-draft vessel designed to deliver hospital-level care in support of Distributed Maritime Operations. Equipped for critical care, surgeries, and a full range of medical services, it supports forward-deployed forces and can access austere ports. With a flight deck for military helicopters, the EMS is also mission-ready for combat support, humanitarian aid, disaster relief, and special operations.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (Nov. 21, 2024) The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP®) has recognized Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP) as one of 77 ACS NSQIP participating hospitals that have achieved meritorious outcomes for surgical patient care in 2023. As a participant in ACS NSQIP, NMCP is required to track the outcomes of inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures and collect data that assesses patient safety and can be used to direct improvement in the quality of surgical care.
